The Uptown Shufflers play Dixieland jazz for all occasions, in and around
the central belt of Scotland. Led by banjo player Dave Wilson, the band
has featured at many events from garden parties to jazz festivals, and
sharing the bill with such bands as the Kenny Ball Jazz Band, Aker Bilk
and the Paramount Jazz Band, Bob Wallace and the Storyville Jazz Band,
Diz Dizzley, and Sandy Brown. The great Barney Kessel once used Dave’s
ancient guitar to accompany a jazz singer at a venue where Dave was
playing. The present line up includes trumpet, trombone, sousaphone
and banjo. However, any combination of mainstream jazz can be put together
as Dave has a huge pool of musicians.
Loch Lomond, just north of Glasgow and of course one of the world’s
most beautiful spots, is famous for its cruises. Dixieland jazz by The
Uptown Shufflers has provided entertainment for both private and public
events on board Cruise Loch Lomond Limited’s popular cruises for
the last four years. In addition to this, The Hamilton Racecourse, Glasgow,
is one such venue where the band regularly entertains crowds of many
thousands (on beautiful sunny Scottish nights!). The spin off of this
has resulted in many engagements for the band since its first appearance
there ten years ago.
In 2002 The Uptown Shufflers supported Glasgow group Belle
and Sebastian on their Scottish tour, having recently featured on
their single I Love My Car, and, being one of Scotland’s
most well known Dixieland bands, The Uptown Shufflers can be heard every
year at the Glasgow Jazz Festival. Click here
to visit the band's MySpace page where you can listen to recordings
and watch footage of them playing in Burntisland.
